Undead Labs is widening access to State of Decay 3 before launch, with closed beta playtests planned before the end of 2026 following a smaller alpha testing program that began earlier this year.
The studio says future test waves will include more players and more platforms. Registration is open, although signing up does not guarantee access to a test.
According to Undead Labs, feedback from the alpha focused on combat against multiple freaks, improved lighting and weather, expanded character customization, and smoother movement. Those details are useful because they show which parts of the game are already being tested with real players rather than only demonstrated in trailers.
State of Decay 3 is being built around a larger shared open world with deeper community, survivor and base-management systems than previous entries. The beta program should give the studio more data on how those systems hold up at scale.
The game is scheduled for 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Steam and PlayStation 5. It will be included with Game Pass and support Xbox Play Anywhere.
