Phantom Blade Zero’s latest State of Play went far beyond another combat montage. S-Game used the deep dive to explain how builds, weapons, side quests and difficulty options work ahead of the game’s October launch.
Players can unlock more than 30 main weapons plus 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges. Weapons can be upgraded and paired with accessories, and S-Game says invested materials can be recovered through reforging if a player wants to change builds.
The Wulin world also includes side quests that can open additional story paths. For difficulty, Wayfarer is aimed at players prioritizing the story, while Hellwalker increases the challenge with more advanced enemy behavior. A separate Sixty-Six Days mode is positioned as an even tougher option.
Donnie Yen is involved as creative consultant and also provides facial and motion capture for Mó Yuan, the father of protagonist Soul. S-Game says Yen’s martial-arts and filmmaking experience has influenced how the game approaches authentic kung fu.
Phantom Blade Zero launches on PlayStation 5 on October 29, 2026, with October 28 listed for the U.S. and select regions.
