Fable just received one of its most revealing gameplay demonstrations yet. Playground Games has published an 18-minute quest walkthrough from gamescom 2026 centred on Bowerstone, the reimagined capital at the heart of the new game.

Why it mattersPlayground Games has shown a substantial new Fable quest in Bowerstone, revealing explorable buildings, property ownership, combat and choice-driven consequences ahead of its February 2027 launch.

The footage gives a much clearer idea of how dense Playground wants Albion to feel. Xbox says every building in Bowerstone can be entered and every house can be purchased, while the quest also introduces Humphry, the disgraced leader of the Heroes’ Guild.

Choice and consequence remain central to the series. The demonstration shows decisions affecting how events unfold, alongside multiple combat encounters that give a better look at the game’s mix of melee, ranged attacks and magic.

The scale of Bowerstone may be the biggest takeaway. Rather than using the city as scenery around a handful of interiors, Playground is presenting it as a place players can meaningfully interact with, own property in and revisit as their reputation changes.

Fable is scheduled to launch February 23, 2027, with Premium Edition early access beginning February 18. Xbox says it will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere.

With the release still months away, this is the kind of extended gameplay Fable needed. The next question is whether the full game can maintain this level of density across the wider open world.
