The Witcher 3 is more than a decade old, but its next expansion is not trying to simply replay the places players already know. New gamescom footage of Songs of the Past shows Geralt entering Letten, a completely new region tied closely to Dandelion and his fractured aristocratic family.
Xbox Wire saw roughly 45 minutes from the expansion’s early stages. Letten is described by developer Fool’s Theory as a fully realized open world, drawing visual inspiration from English and Polish countryside rather than the war-scarred regions that defined much of the original game.
The story begins with Geralt investigating Dandelion’s disappearance and a dangerous piece of his family history connected to the Garden of Thorns. The seemingly peaceful landscape gradually changes as the mystery deepens, turning overgrown settlements and dense vegetation into part of the threat.
There are mechanical additions too. New enemies shown include stationary but aggressive Thornblooms and Swarmion fighters protected by shields made from hornets. Geralt can also equip a hooked chain as a ranged weapon to pull enemies toward him and accelerate close-range combat.
CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory are positioning Songs of the Past as a substantial return rather than a short nostalgia exercise. The official listing promises dozens of quests and points of interest, unique mutagens, new enemies and choices with consequences for Letten and Geralt’s relationships.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past is due in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Separately, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is scheduled for September 29, 2026, with the remaster offered free to owners of the original game.
