Minecraft Dungeons II is making a deceptively important change to its loot system: finding a stronger item no longer has to mean abandoning the weapon or armor you actually enjoy using. A new gamescom 2026 demo showed how the sequel’s Blacksmith can keep favorite equipment relevant as players progress.
At the hub town of Brave Haven, the Blacksmith can upgrade an owned item to the highest power level currently available to the player. The same system can reroll an item’s built-in buff, giving players another way to refine equipment instead of constantly replacing it.
The Enchantsmith pushes customization further. Players discover Enchant Books while exploring and can spend currency dropped by Soul Corrupted enemies to add new effects to gear. Xbox’s demo described combinations that can turn a dodge roll into an arrow attack and then layer elemental effects onto those arrows.
The demo also introduced the Copper Monstrosity, a new boss with heavy melee attacks, lightning area-of-effect strikes and full-arena dashes. The fight is designed to force players to use their entire kit rather than wait passively for one powerful ability to recharge.
Quality-of-life changes target local co-op as well. Holding the inventory button can open a compact on-screen inventory, allowing multiple couch co-op players to manage equipment without forcing everyone else to wait on a full-screen menu.
Minecraft Dungeons II launches September 29, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, cloud, Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. It will also be included with Game Pass and support Xbox Play Anywhere.
