Halloween: The Game is still two days away from its full digital launch, but a large group of players is already inside Haddonfield. Digital Deluxe pre-orders unlocked early access on September 4, giving the game its first real test before everyone else joins on September 8.
The timing has also produced the first meaningful player reaction. Steam currently labels the game's English user reviews as Mixed, with roughly two-thirds of early reviewers recommending it. That number can move quickly during an early-access window, but it is a more useful signal than pre-release hype because people are finally judging the version they can actually play.
IllFonic built the game around two very different ways to experience Michael Myers. There is a single-player story mode that puts players behind the mask, and a 1v4 multiplayer mode where Myers hunts civilian characters across four Haddonfield maps. The launch build also includes perks, cosmetics, executions and progression systems for both sides.
That split is probably why the first few days matter so much. Horror fans who only want the fantasy of stalking through a faithful 1978-style Haddonfield may care more about the solo campaign, while the multiplayer crowd will immediately notice matchmaking, balance and repetition. Early Steam reviews are mixing those expectations together.
The Deluxe edition costs $59.99 and is the version that includes the four-day early-access period. The standard digital edition is $39.99 and unlocks September 8 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Physical editions arrive later, on October 6.
For now, the clearest takeaway is that Halloween did not enter launch week quietly. It already has a real player base, a real review score and a debate forming around whether IllFonic has another long-term horror multiplayer game on its hands or a strong license that still needs work.
