Ted Lasso came back after a three-year gap and found an even larger audience. New Nielsen streaming data reported this week shows season four delivered the comedy's biggest premiere week to date.
The season four premiere had already set an Apple TV launch record, drawing 296.6 million viewing minutes in the United States across its August 4 and August 5 launch window. The broader weekly numbers now confirm that the return was not just a one-day spike.
Apple brought the series back on August 5 with Jason Sudeikis returning as Ted. This season shifts the story toward Richmond's second-division women's football team, while familiar faces including Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift are back alongside new cast members.
The scale of the return matters because season three originally felt like a natural stopping point for the series. Instead, season four arrived more than three years later and immediately became Apple TV's biggest premiere to that point.
That makes Ted Lasso one of the clearest examples of a streaming show surviving a long break without losing its audience. The challenge now is whether the momentum holds through the rest of the 10-episode season.
New episodes continue weekly on Apple TV through October 7.
